What ISO 27701 is
ISO/IEC 27701:2025 is the international benchmark extending an ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management System into a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS).
It provides dedicated control clauses for both PII controllers and PII processors, aligning data governance with GDPR, CCPA, and international data protection laws.
Because ISO 27701 builds directly on top of ISO 27001, much of your existing security measures, policies, and evidence carries straight over. You add the privacy controls; you do not rebuild the ISMS.
